This website is home to the OpenCity Repository - an artist-led project initiated by UHC Collective in Manchester, UK in 2005. The OpenCity Repository is an online collection of new research, art and ideas that challenge Manchester's rebirth as an entrepreneurial, neo-liberal city. The Repository has two distinct areas - first is a series of introductory briefing papers, written by the OpenCity editorial team, which set out the premise of the project. You can access them from the navigation at the top of this page. The second and main area of the Repository is its extensive database, which you can browse by following links from the briefing papers, or by using the search facility. The database is made up of submissions by the OpenCity editorial team and can be added to by anyone. The OpenCity repository has been funded by the Scurrah Wainwright Trust.

MERCi is an independent charity (established in 1996) working to make Manchester more sustainable. By this, we mean a prosperous city that is greener, safer, healthier and more equitable. Bridge-5 Mill is Manchester 's only Centre for Sustainable Living and is home both to MERCi and numerous other progressive organisations and projects. As one of Manchester 's leading social-change organisations MERCi pioneers alternatives to the environmentally destructive ways we presently live.
